The all-new 2021 Kia Sorento is bringing four engine options to the table, giving shoppers a variety of powertrain options. The standard 2.5-liter GDI 4-cylinder engine delivers 191 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque on the road. Kia estimates this base engine will offer a combined 27 mpg fuel economy, bringing a 2-mpg increase over the previous model.
The available 2.5-liter GDI 4-cylinder turbo engine brings a segment-exclusive 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission to deliver 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. The other two engine options for the 2021 Kia Sorento are both a 1.6-liter GDI 4-cylinder Turbo engine, with one being a traditional hybrid setup and one being a plug-in hybrid setup. The competing 2021 Highlander offers just two engine options for drivers — one traditional gas option and one hybrid option.
