There’s a new Kia in town and it’s taking the place of the long-standing Kia Optima. The 2021 Kia K5 has officially been announced and it is set to bring a world of new features, designs, and more. Built on an all-new platform and boasting a turbocharged engine lineup, the K5 is already living up to its sports sedan title.
The 2021 K5 is set to bring four trim levels when it first debuts – LX, LXS, GT-Line, and EX – and a fifth power-packed GT trim level in the fall. This reimagined sedan is set to pave the way for future Kia models and it is about to hit the market in a big way. Dive into what exactly this supercharged Kia sedan is bringing to the Tampa Bay area below and learn all about the 2021 Kia K5.
The 2021 Kia K5 is setting a new standard for the Kia brand, representing what is to come for future Kia models. The K5 is fitted with a modernized front end, replacing the signature tiger-nose grille with what Kia is calling a “tiger face.” The front grille is thinner and wider on the K5 than its Optima predecessor and the grille expands outward into the headlights and hood. The fastback silhouette hints at the power beneath the hood and various exterior details make the K5 even more visually appealing.
The front end of the K5 wears “Heart Beat” daytime running lights and its rear end is fitted with available LED “dashes” along the rear deck lid. An aircraft-type shift knob adds to the futuristic atmosphere within the K5 sports sedan and the various premium upholstery options create a comfortable and exciting feel in the cabin. A panoramic sunroof brings the outside into the K5 and the flat-bottom sport steering wheel offers a premium sports feel.
Two different engine options are available in the 2021 Kia K5 lineup, both of which offer a turbocharged performance on the road. When fitted with the 2.5-liter turbocharged GDI engine the K5 can jump from zero to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds. Models equipped with the 2.5T engine also feature a new 8-speed “wet” Dual Clutch Transmission, amplifying its place among the sports sedan competition.
The K5 can also be suited up with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With this engine in tow, the K5 generates 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque on the road. Available all-wheel drive is offered in models equipped with the 1.6T engine to help transform the driver’s experience on the road and add enhanced all-weather driving capabilities.
