Luxury SUVs give drivers the ability to transport large numbers of passengers, a ton of cargo and do it all in some of the most incredibly-surprising comfort you’ve ever felt at 60-plus miles per hour. Although the three-pointed star of Mercedes-Benz is a household symbol in luxury automobiles, Kia’s track record for reliability and creativity means their popular Sorento gives drivers trim levels that compete in this class.

For 2018, we’re going to be looking at similarly-spec’d models. The two models will be the 2018 Kia Sorento SX V6 AWD and the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC. Both models place a huge emphasis on driver experience, comfort and convenience while also delivering a robust and athletic ride that can carry and tow everything you would need or want to bring along. Let’s see how they measure up!

Kia Sorento Advantages Over GLC

Kia’s higher-trimmed Sorento offers a bold and serious luxury SUV alternative. The 2018 Sorento doesn’t just throw this term around, however, it goes head-to-head with the hallmark luxury SUV manufacturer and manages to beat it at its own game.

While drivers looking for power will find the 2018 Kia Sorento V6 AWD to provide incredible horsepower and torque, a 2.4 L 4-cylinder engine is available which ups the efficiency and provides the same horsepower as the GLC.

More for less isn’t just a buzzword. Drivers will be able to take more people along in the 2018 Kia Sorento, with seating for up to 7 passengers. Those passengers will love being able to bring along more with almost 20 cubic feet of additional space in the Sorento.

Should the luggage be more of a trailer than a suitcase, the 2018 Sorento won’t disappoint. 5,000 lbs. Vs. the 3500 lbs. of the GLC ensures that less has to stay home than ever before.

Being a luxury SUV, comfort and convenience are top concerns with these two vehicles. That’s another area where the Sorento delivers and outpaces the GLC. With an additional four speakers, external amplifier and subwoofer and an 8” UVO3 touchscreen, the 2018 Kia Sorento gives you access to all of your media without distracting you from the drive.

Heated leather front seats further enhance the luxury of the 2018 Kia Sorento. As with many of Mercedes-Benz “luxury” models, the 2018 GLC 300 gives drivers vinyl leatherette seating over the luxurious leather of the Sorento. Is it even possible to ride in luxury while you’re sitting on plastic?

Finally, with all of these improvements, you think the 2018 Sorento would come with a price tag to match. Fortunately, the 2018 Kia Sorento V6 AWD still manages to come in over $1,000 lower than the GLC.

For drivers interested in showing off the badge on the front of their vehicle, the GLC may be a more attractive choice. For the rest of us, we’ll drive away from this decision in comfort, style and with everybody else in our Sorento.
