If you're interested in a small SUV that not only has the power to carry you through hairy situations but the handling for urban driving and the fuel savings that is typically only accessible with sedans, then you want the 2017 Kia Sportage. But the 2016 Buick Envision is an interesting (and new) small SUV on the market, so let's compare the two to see what the pros and cons of each are.
Before we even get into the power or spaciousness of either model, let's get this out of the way: The 2017 Kia Sportage is less than half the price of the 2016 Buick Envision with available Friendly Kia VIP pricing at $19,015. The 2016 Envision will go north of $40,000 at the competition. You'd think for that extra money you get more cargo room or better fuel savings, or perhaps nicer safety features, but that's a no on all counts as the 2017 Sportage can fit 60.1 cubic feet of items in back and gets 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, while also being an IIIHS Top Safety Pick. The 2016 Envision has less cargo room at 57.3 cubic feet and only gets 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway; it has not been honored with a Top Safety Pick, either.

Besides the tremendous edges the 2017 Kia Sportage has over the 2016 Buick Envision in cargo room and safety, among others, it also handles as well as, or better, than a sedan. The 2017 Sportage has a curb weight of just over 3,300 pounds in its base trim level and an ability to turn curb-to-curb in 34.8 feet, making fitting into a tight spot on main street on a Friday night a heck of a lot easier than it is with the plodding and large 2016 Envision, which tips the scales at more than 4,000 pounds and has a curb-to-curb turning circle that some minivans scoff at, at 39.5 feet.
