What’s Going on in Tampa Bay This Weekend?

Tampa Bay Events July 7 and July 8 2018

The Fourth of July is the perfect mile-marker holiday for us during the summer. It marks the ideal part of the season. We’re far enough in that everything is open and people usually have their schedules figured out, but haven’t quite hit that HHH part of the season yet (heat, humidity and hurricanes).

So, have fun this weekend. If you need some help, we get it. While in other places, opportunities to have fun have to be actively hunted, here they are so abundant that it can be tough to comb through them and find something worth your time.

We got your back. Here are the things we’re most excited about this weekend in our neighborhood of Tampa Bay!

1. First Friday at the Plant @ Henry B. Plant Museum – Tampa, FL

Friday, July 6, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

If you haven’t dived into the rich museum culture that surrounds us here in Tampa Bay, this is a fantastic opportunity to dig in. The Henry B. Plant Museum serves as the nation’s sole Victorian railroad hotel museum. Visiting will give you a snapshot into an often-romanticized era of American history when railroads were space-age travel tools and hotels, the place where the people who industrialized the nation recovered their energy.

Every first Friday, the museum is free for two hours in the evening. During this time, you’ll be able to take advantage of live jazz music, a tasting table and a tour throughout the heritage-rich abode.

More information is available on the Tampa Downtown website, which you can reach by clicking here.

2. Aethertopia @ Florida State Fair Grounds – Tampa, FL

Saturday, July 7, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 8, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

While the Henry B. Plant Museum is where to go for a historically-accurate picture of the Victorian era, Steampunk is a genre that takes the high fashion, industrialized aesthetic and decorum from this era and blends it with futuristic technology. Aethertopia bills itself as the “Greatest Steampunk Event in History.”

Both Friday and Saturday, you’ll be able to swing by the Florida State Fairgrounds and see several vendors, exhibits and plenty of costumed attendees celebrating this art movement. Additionally, the “Great Maker Contest at Aethertopia” will add a competitive and interesting competition that sees creatives put their brains to work to build incredible machines and contraptions in the Steampunk aesthetic.

Whether you’re a fan of the movement or not, this promises to be one of the most interesting and unique ways to spend your time this weekend.

More information, including ticketing and directions, is available on the Aethertopia website, which you can reach by clicking here.

3. Coheed and Cambria X Taking Back Sunday @ MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre – Tampa, FL

Saturday, July 7, 2018, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

If you grew up in the early 2000s and your wardrobe ever included studded belt buckles, black t-shirts that were a size too small and a lot of eyeliner, chances are these bands need no introduction. This concert, which is undoubtedly geared toward the nostalgic 20-somethings among us, promises music from some of the most prolific alternative bands from the 2002 – 2010 era of music.

For the rest of us, well…let’s just say that the music doesn’t hold up so well to the modern palette. Still, at Friendly Kia, we love nostalgia and think it’s a perfectly valid reason to go and enjoy the sounds of Taking Back Sunday, Coheed and Cambria and special guests The Story So Far.

Tickets are available through LiveNation. You can reach the events page by clicking here.

4. Tampa Bay Rowdies Vs. Louisville City FC @ Al Lang Stadium – St. Petersburg, FL

Saturday, July 7, 2018, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

If you’re like most of us here at Friendly Kia, you’ve probably caught World Cup fever. While the FIFA World Cup celebrates the most elite national teams and players on the planet, a small sampling of the edge-of-your-seat thrill that world soccer provides is available in our own backyard.

Although at home, with only 19 league points to Louisville City FC’s 26, this game sees the Rowdies enter as underdogs. If you have been watching the World Cup like many of us have and are excited by underdog victories, this is your chance to cheer on both our local club and the underdog.

Ticketing is reasonable and available through the Rowdies’ website, which you can reach by clicking here.

Enjoy Summer in Tampa Bay

We refuse to accept that summer means we can’t have fun here in Tampa Bay. Even with the heat and humidity of the mid-day highs, we can still enjoy several fun indoor activities as well as evening outings.

With these events, you should find something wonderful and Instagram-worthy to do this weekend.

We feature local events roundups every week here on the Friendly Kia blog. Additionally, if nothing we have here ticks your fancy, past events roundups feature ongoing events that you may be interested in digging for.

If you have an event you would like us to feature in one of our next roundups, would like more information about what makes Tampa Bay the place where God takes his vacations or would like to schedule a test drive with a fun and reliable Kia model, contact us today!
