What’s Going on in Tampa Bay This Weekend?

Tampa Bay Events August 18 and August 19 2018

It’s mid-August and like an episode of the Twilight Zone, the people around us share one of two expressions. The first, seen in people from Kindergarteners through graduate students, is one of dread and foreboding – like being out to sea in a small boat and gazing at a swelling storm. The second, noticeably present in parents of the first group, is one of mirth and elation – as if they had won a small fortune in the lottery or been told that Daylight Saving Time now includes nine extra hours that MUST BE used only for sleeping.

Back to school is upon us, but don’t be fooled into thinking that means we’re not able to have fun anymore! In today’s roundup, we’ve gathered some magnificent events you can enjoy this weekend as summer slowly disappears over the horizon.

1. Bolts Brew Fest @ Amalie Arena – Tampa, FL

Friday, August 17, 2018, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Beer and hockey are a natural team and this weekend, you’ll get a chance to show your enthusiasm for both as the Tampa Bay Lightning host this phenomenal craft beer tasting event. You’ll find several local breweries throughout the arena and sample your way through over 100 varieties of craft beer – from pale ales to deep dark stouts.

Fun, Lightning-themed games will also be available with a portion of the proceeds supporting one of our favorite charities – the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

More information is available on the event’s website, which you can reach by clicking here.

2. Camp Gladiator Stadium Takeover @ Raymond James Stadium – Tampa, FL

Saturday, August 18, 2018, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

For the first time in ten years, the famed rugged fitness Camp Gladiator is opening its doors across the nation for free stadium dashes! You’ve seen other athletes compete at their highest level here at Raymond James and this is your chance to do the same.

You can sign up as either a spectator or competitor. Either way, you’ll have freebies, food, vendors, live music and of course, heart-racing exercises.

Find out more at the Camp Gladiator Stadium Takeover website, which you can reach by clicking here.

3. Free Yoga Session on the Field @ George M. Steinbrenner Field – Tampa, FL

Saturday, August 18, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

If an intense and rugged “gladiator” workout isn’t your speed, you’re in luck. It’s not the only chance to exercise on a gigantic sports field. Yoga on the Diamond allows you to enjoy a free one-hour yoga lesson on the field of our landmark GMS field.

Led by Bella Prana Yoga and Meditation, you’ll enjoy the beautiful outdoors and the picturesque grass of the stadium as you stretch and meditate through multiple asanas. With all yoga levels welcome and the event open to all ages, everybody is encouraged to come!

Donations can be made in the form of school supplies which will be passed on to less fortunate children during the anxiety-filled back-to-school season in which we all sit now.

More information is available on the event’s Facebook page, which you can reach by clicking here.

4. Vibes of the Bay 2018 @ Ybor City Historic District – Tampa, FL

Saturday, August 18, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Gigantic music festivals are over-rated. Who wants to be crowded into a single-stage viewing area with unwashed campers to see some artists whose songs you’ve heard on the radio so many times (too many times?)?

Independent music festivals, however, are definitely our jam. This weekend, you can find one of the best in our favorite historic district – Ybor City. Up-and-coming artists like Trapfone, Pixelsaur, Calma Carmona, Mouth Council, the Jackettes, DJ Qeys and more will bring a variety of genres and styles to our own backyard.

Ticketing is on an RSVP basis so be sure to do that on the event’s website here.

5. Alonzo Bodden Live @ Side Splitters Comedy Club – Tampa, FL

Sunday, August 19, 2018, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Alonzo Bodden is an internationally-renowned comedian whose recent Showtime special “Historically Incorrect” has garnered praise. He also can be caught as a panel member on the NPR Saturday-morning quiz show “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me.”

This weekend, he brings his hilarious and unique brand of comedy to Side Splitters in Tampa. More information on this show is available on the event’s website, which you can reach by clicking here.
