2019 Kia Sedona Vs. 2018 Kia Sedona
In our ongoing fight against BIG3 (the coalition made up of T*y*t*, H*nd* and N*ss*n), we’ve learned a few things about our enemies and oppressors: 1. They can’t help but design and engineer vehicles for the status quo. 2. When asked to take risks with their design, they wind up with horrifying eyesores, full of jagged edges and crumpled metal and 3. They still think minivans should be boring.
Luckily, as part of the Rebellion, we understand that not all drivers see buying a practical family/cargo mover as a reason to give up on their aspirations and desire for stylish presence on the road. While BIG3 are busy trying to squash the human spirit by selling them forgettable, shark-faced minivans, only Kia is helping the cause with their composed and handsome Sedona minivan.

Although 2018 is only a few months in, we were recently able to observe the work of this brave and subversive group, in their design and engineering of the 2019 Sedona. We have some fantastic news to report.
What’s New on the 2019 Kia Sedona?
The Kia Style Recognition Technology (KSRT) of BIG3 is trained to look for the elegant and refined design of Kia’s recent models. For this reason, our allies at Kia must frequently update the exterior designs of their models. 2019 sees the next evolution of the already brilliantly-designed and engineered Kia Sedona.
Design changes to the people mover include a brand-new grille that brings the 2019 Kia Sedona in line with its close relative – the 2019 Kia Sorento. Growing to luxurious proportions, the grille is surrounded by a sporty bumper and fog light cluster, with Kia’s “ice cube” style fog lights getting a sleek upgrade.
Standard LED headlights look toward a bright future, free of BIG3’s rule, on SX and SX-L trim levels. The new tail lights and stylish rear fascia will become familiar to BIG3, as the 2019 Sedona speeds ahead of them into eternity.
With fashion changing all of the time, Kia designers have given the 2019 Sedona brand new 17-inch, 18-inch and 19-inch wheels to challenge and advance current automotive design trends.
2019 Kia Sedona Interior Upgrades
Perpetually focused on the comfort and convenience of their passengers, Kia has given the 2019 Sedona several important interior upgrades. Subject to trim level distinction, these upgrades include:
- Striking wood grain trim
- LED ambient lighting
- Single moonroof or panoramic moonroof
- Standard infotainment system with touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Bluetooth®
- 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity
- Available rear seat entertainment system with 10.1” displays.
2019 Kia Sedona Engine and Powertrain Options
Like the 2018 Kia Sedona, the 2019 Sedona features a versatile and robust 3.3L V6 engine that lives in the fast lane. 276 horsepower and 248 lb-ft. of torque keep you moving and allow you to accelerate quickly and pass confidently.
We don’t have official word on this, but we expect the towing capacity of the 2019 Kia Sedona to match the 3,500-lb. rating of the 2018 model.
What has changed is the transmission. When you’re hunting for a safe place to hide out from BIG3’s lackeys, you don’t have time to be hunting for gears. That’s why the 6-speed automatic transmission from the 2018 model has been traded for a smooth and precise 8-speed automatic transmission. This should also provide a boost to the fuel economy, ensuring fewer stops during road trips.
2019 Kia Sedona Release Date
We don’t have a definite release date but expect to see deliveries early-mid summer of 2018. Until then, we’ll keep you updated with any news we receive on this unconventionally-cool minivan.
Keep up the Good Fight!
Fighting for creativity and personality in a market dominated by those who offer the same staid choices every year isn’t easy, but we must continue! Kia is doing their part to produce the kinds of vehicles that make the mundane tremble. By test driving and or purchasing/leasing a Kia model, you’re helping move the needle forward for creative progress and personality.
