What Features do you Want to See on the Next Kia Stinger?

Next-Generation Kia Stinger Speculation and Wishlist

As a bold and uncompromising delivery system for luxury vehicle features and exhilarating sports-car performance, the Kia Stinger is already becoming an icon for more than simply its style. The Stinger, after all, reveals Kia’s commitment to tearing down the walls that have traditionally surrounded concepts like luxury, performance and design, offering them to the masses.

Now on its second model year with the third expected soon, the Kia Stinger hasn’t just been a statement from Kia, though. It’s also been a massive seller, validating the brand’s gambit and showing that drivers want speed, luxury and style in their daily driver.

With the third model-year possibly bringing some facelifted elements, a second-generation is likely already in the works. Looking at the calendar, it will most likely debut in 2022. While the Kia Stinger answers so many questions drivers had and didn’t know they had,  we’ve wondered how Kia can make the best better.

Here are our thoughts:

Next-Generation Kia Stinger Special Editions

We’ve seen it with the 2018 Kia Stinger Atlantica and 2019 Kia Stinger GTS. Kia recognizes the strengths the Stinger is built around, namely, the ability to serve as both luxury grand-tourer and track-day weapon while simultaneously offering a great daily drive.

Playing to these strengths, Kia has produced special editions in the past that further emphasize the Stinger’s more luxury features or its more performance-based features. We’d love to see a Stinger GT with a third powertrain option.

That’s right, we’re talking about a twin-turbocharged, or even supercharged, variant of the Kia Telluride’s 3.8-liter V6 engine.

Having a 400+-horsepower Kia Stinger that competes with American pony and muscle cars like the Ford Mustang GT (480 horsepower), the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS (455 horsepower) and the Dodge Charger Scat Pack (485 horsepower) in addition to the German performance cars like the BMW 550i (445 horsepower), Mercedes-AMG C 63 (469 horsepower) and Audi RS5 (444 horsepower) opens up a whole new market for Kia.

Even More Color Options

While the 2019 Kia Stinger already has a gigantic palette of available color options, seeing sportier and more luxury variants would help it fall into the perfect position for different drivers. For instance, a calm brown color or dark green is quite popular in the luxury segment. On the other hand, a mass-produced electric yellow would make the Kia Stinger sportier than ever before.

We’d also love to see a lighter blue color that is in line with some of the more intense blues available from makers like Ford (Grabber Blue) and Porsche (Miami Blue).

Electric Kia Stinger or Hybrid Kia Stinger

With Kia providing heavy investment in the R&D of an electrified or semi-electrified future, using the instant torque provided by an electric powertrain for launching could bring the Stinger’s already-excellent 0-60 time down by a second or more.

The movement of electrification from fuel-saving engineering measure to performance measure has been a rapid one. Competitors like Tesla (Model 3 Performance, Model S and upcoming Roadster) and Porsche (Taycan) have already figured out the incredible performance that can be had from a gear-less acceleration system.

A Kia Stinger with an electric or hybrid-electric powertrain would be a dream come true for drivers who want to save at the gas pump and experience silent, heart-racing acceleration.

Not Much Else

When it comes to the existing powertrain options, existing interior style and exterior design and amenities list on the Kia Stinger, there are very few other things we would personally like to see changed.

The Stinger was a bit of a gamble for Kia and now that it’s proven to be a success, we think it can make a great building block to revolutionize luxury and performance vehicles across GT cars, import racers, muscle cars, pony cars and European luxury sports cars.
