Kia Telluride at Detroit Auto Show 2019
Auto shows are like Christmas for us. Whether a manufacturer is releasing brand-new models, all-new variants of existing models or just letting us sit in their vehicles and think about how our lives have led us here, they’re fun for anybody who cares even a little about cars.
Ever the center of American automotive manufacturing, Detroit has one of the biggest and best. It’s also the first of the year, kicking off the exciting late-winter/early-spring season of automotive conventions.
This year was no different. Kia brought the Telluride to the 2019 North American International Auto Show and it was glorious.
2019 Kia Telluride Specs Updated Information from NAIAS 2019
We’ve spent a lot of time on our blog theorizing what the Telluride will bring to the table in terms of power and distribution.

Our earliest inclinations about the Telluride were that it would have a larger engine than the 2019 Kia Sorento’s 3.3L V6. While our initial thought was that it might see the twin-turbocharged 3.3L V6 present in the 2019 Kia Stinger and 2019 Kia K900, Kia surprised us with a brand-new engine.
The 2020 Kia Telluride will feature Kia’s biggest and beefiest 3.8L GDI V6 engine. Running on the Atkinson Cycle, this engine will push out a respectable 291 horsepower, 262 lb-ft. of torque and should have excellent fuel economy (those numbers haven’t been announced yet).
This engine will be mated to a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission. We’d be willing to bet it’s the same transmission you can currently find in Kia’s luxury range of the Cadenza, Sorento (select trims) and K900.
Supporting the 2020 Kia Telluride is four-wheel independent suspension and a self-leveling rear suspension system with dynamic ride height control.
The 2020 Kia Telluride will tow 5,000 lbs. in its standard form.
One of the welcome surprises of the 2020 Kia Telluride is that it will be made in the United States of America at Kia’s facility in West Point, Georgia. Four trim levels will be available along with AWD being available to replace the Telluride’s standard front-wheel drive layout.
