Kia’s New Slogan Does More than Just Hint at the Brand’s Relentless Ambition

Branding is a difficult thing to get right. A good brand does more than just represent a company, its product line and its direction. It serves as a dynamic and active personality in the public space. Good brands are exciting to follow, have attractive messaging which echoes exceptional values and can sometimes pivot what they do/make without losing a ton of their fans because people love the brand first and the product second.

For Kia, the brand overhaul is nearly complete. Having spent much of their first decade plus in the North American market as an economy brand known for putting forward the minimum viable product. Old Kia vehicles didn’t really need a slogan. Everybody knew that if you were in the market for a very inexpensive vehicle, Kia was a good place to go to get one.

These days, however, Kia vehicles are associated with a lot more than just inexpensive price tags. Modern Kia vehicles have preserved the brand’s focus on value but updated it to include standard features which often beat out segment competitors, a focus on performance and an industry-best 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and 5-year/60,000-mile limited warranty.

Previewing their change into a value-driven brand that aims to compete with the mass-market giants on more than just price, Kia added “The Power to Surprise” as their slogan in 2005. For over ten years, this slogan dictated Kia’s direction and heralded models like the boxy Kia Soul, European-influenced Kia Forte and luxury sports sedan Kia Stinger along with a dozen exciting concept vehicles.

Changing Gears

Although Kia still has the “power to surprise,” the brand’s ability to put forward compelling models which buck industry trends is pretty well known at this point. We think this is the reason behind the unveiling of Kia’s newest slogan at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, alongside the 2020 Kia Telluride.

As of 2019, Kia’s new slogan is “Give It Everything,” highlighting the brand’s commitment to offering more features, more value and more personality for less.
