Gasparilla 2020 Dates, Times and Locations
It’s January 2020 and, yes, that was objectively terrifying to type out. Luckily for us in Tampa Bay, however, the onset of the new year and the months that commence the year bring so many great opportunities to experience the rich vein of local culture we have here in Tampa Bay.
One of the best activities we have in Tampa Bay is the festivities surrounding Gasparilla – the celebration of the famed and apocryphal Spanish pirate, Jose Gaspar, who settled in Tampa Bay. Gasparilla brings us two momentous parades, a ton of pirate-themed aesthetics and activity around Tampa and some incredible festivals that bring internationally-renowned artists to our own backyard.
While the rest of the country is freezing inside their homes, we’re living our best and most piratey lives here in the Bay. The season kicks off with the Gasparilla Children’s Parade and Gasparilla Pirate Invasion.
When is the 2020 Gasparilla Children’s Parade?
This year, the Ashley Homestore Children’s Gasparilla (presented by Chick-Fil-A Tampa Bay) will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 3:30 p.m. EST to 6:00 p.m. EST at the corner of Bay Blvd. and Bayshore Blvd. downtown Tampa, continuing north along Bayshore Blvd. with a terminus at Edison Avenue.
If you can’t make it out to the parade, it can be watched on the local affiliate FOX 13.
When is the 2020 Gasparilla Pirate Invasion, Pirate Parade and Pirate Festival?
The Seminole Hard Rock Gasparilla Pirate Fest 2020 sets sail Saturday, January 25, 2020. Presented by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, the Pirate Invasion begins at 11:30 a.m. EST and ends at 1:00 p.m. EST. To those who may have never seen the invasion, the Jose Gasparilla magically appears in the south end of the Hillsborough Bay. The drama that follows is well worth attending.
Following the pirate invasion, the various krewes begin their march down historic Bayshore Blvd. into downtown Tampa with colorful costumes, lively music and spirited marching performances in tow.
Following the parade, downtown Tampa lights up with the 2020 Gasparilla Pirate Festival that sees parks all along the Hillsborough Riverwalk and more hosting events, live music, food trucks and more. This pirate festival actually encompasses the invasion and parade, so you’ll want to make sure to arrive downtown early (it kicks off at 9:00 a.m. EST and goes until 9:00 p.m. EST) to find parking and get situated.
