When Is the Kia Sportage/NQ5 Coming to the U.S.?

Fifth-Generation 2022 Kia Sportage NQ5 Predictions and Release Date

The Kia Sportage received its last total redesign back in 2017 and now it’s just about time for a new generation of Sportage design. The 2022 Kia Sportage, also code-named the Kia NQ5 while in production, is predicted to be released in South Korea in April 2021 and come to the U.S. in the second half of 2021, however, an official release date has not been confirmed. A few spy shots of the fifth-generation Kia Sportage have been circulating online and our team and Friendly Kia can’t help but get excited about what’s to come for this Sportage model.

Based on the information we’ve seen so far, our team has put together some of our top fifth-generation 2022 Kia Sportage NQ5 predictions and speculations for what’s to come with this new Sportage model. Check out our predictions below!

2022 Kia Sportage NQ5 Design

Entering its fifth generation in 2022, we can expect that the 2022 Kia Sportage will be fully redesigned with an entirely new look. Based on the camouflaged images we’ve seen so far, many are speculating that the 2022 Sportage will pull some design cues from the new Kia K5 and will look like some members of the high-end luxury automotive market.

The new Sportage NQ5 model is predicted to bring in sharpened LED exterior lighting, similar to the K5, and a curved roof. Aside from its sharp detailing, the overall look of the Sportage is expected to be relatively smooth and coupe-like.

An online designer, AtchaCars, has crafted a digital rendering of the highly anticipated 2022 Kia Sportage to give viewers a look at what type of design we can expect to see come 2021. AtchaCars created the rendering based on spy shots of the camouflaged Sportage NQ5 and the design can be seen in the included video.

2022 Kia Sportage NQ5 Engine Lineup

The Kia brand’s new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with direct injection is expected to be the standard powerplant in the 2022 Kia Sportage. With this system in place, the Sportage will generate an estimated 190 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque. It is possible that the Sportage lineup will bring in a turbocharged engine option with a horsepower rating over 230 horsepower, however at this point in time that is more of wishful hoping than prediction or speculation.

Will There Be a Hybrid 2022 Kia Sportage?

Currently, there is no strong prediction on whether we will see the arrival of a hybrid Kia Sportage model in the fifth-generation 2022 lineup. The Friendly Kia team, however, is hoping we will see at least one hybrid variant of the Sportage in its next generation. Kia continues to implement more and more hybrid offerings into its lineup, and we think the start of a new generation is the perfect time to bring in a hybrid Sportage.
