2022 Kia K5 Predictions and Speculations
The Kia K5 has been a spectacular success among shoppers here in the Clearwater and New Port Richey area. Central Florida shoppers have been flocking to the Friendly Kia lot to get their chance behind the wheel of the first-ever U.S.-spec Kia K5 and now many are asking – what’s next?
The biggest question surrounding the Kia Optima sedan’s replacement is whether or not there will be a hybrid K5 model. Kia has reignited the sedan segment of the competition with the K5 and has been introducing hybrid variants of fan-favorite models as we’ve seen with the Kia Sorento. With just one model year under its belt so far, we can only guess what’s to come for the Kia K5. In regards to the 2022 Kia K5 lineup, here are Friendly Kia’s predictions and speculations.

Second-Generation Kia K5 Speculations and Predictions
With only one model year available so far for the Kia K5, a second-generation K5 is a ways away. Kia tends to follow a five-year cycle for its models, and while the past year has felt like five, we can expect to see an all-new variation of the K5 sometime closer to the 2025 model year.
Kia K5 Hybrid Powertrain Options
Our team at Friendly Kia in New Port Richey is hopeful that we will see a hybrid variant of the K5 hit the streets sometime soon. The K5 took the place of the outgoing Kia Optima, which offered both hybrid and plug-in hybrid model options. We think it is likely that we will eventually get a hybrid powertrain beneath the hood of the K5, but it’s safe to assume that time won’t come until closer to the next generation.
Kia will likely keep traditional powertrains in the first generation of the K5 before expanding the offerings to any alternative powertrain options. Major changes to Kia models aren’t often found with mid-cycle refreshes, so unless Kia kicks off a new generation of K5 in the next year or two, it isn’t all that likely that the 2022 Kia K5 will offer hybrid variants.

While we don’t think that the 2022 model year will bring a hybrid variation of the Kia K5, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’ll be proven wrong. We are expecting to see some subtle changes from the 2021 K5 to the 2022 Kia K5, with any major updates holding out until the next generation of K5.
