2021 Kia Seltos MPG and Fuel Efficiency Numbers

With the Kia Soul having all but created and cemented the segment, we’ve spent a lot of time here on the Friendly Kia Blog discussing and analyzing the subcompact crossover class. Crafted for drivers who need comfortable and convenient transportation throughout the week with eyes on a weekend of adventures, vehicles in this class are billed as “small wonders” of the automotive world.

Late last year, when Kia announced that the Kia Seltos would be coming to North America for the 2021 model year, we were delighted. After all, Kia has really needed an AWD-equipped model in the subcompact crossover space to compete with less exciting models like the Chevy Trax and Honda HR-V that sell purely because of their AWD drivetrain.

The segment needed Kia and it got it. The Kia Seltos, in fact, is remixing the old formula – making AWD the base configuration for the agile SUV. Kia has also given the 2021 Kia Seltos a huge range of color options that allow drivers to find the perfect form of self-expression, be it a sophisticated black or energetic orange.

One question that is of high importance in the subcompact SUV space has been unanswered until now: how often will the 2021 Kia Seltos take you to the fuel pump? Those numbers are out per the EPA and we’ve got some great news!

2021 Kia Seltos EPA-Estimated MPG Figures

With its base configuration of a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine, IVT and AWD powertrain, the 2021 Kia Seltos will see an EPA-estimated 31 highway MPG/27 city MPG/29 combined MPG.

The FWD variant (an option on the 2021 Kia Seltos S) does predictably better than the standard drivetrain with 34 highway MPG/29 city MPG/31 combined MPG – a difference we think many drivers may see as negligible in favor of the enhanced traction and all-weather capability provided by all-wheel drive.

Finally, if you opt for the 175-horsepower turbocharged variant of the 2021 Kia Seltos S or 2021 Kia Seltos SX, you’ll find fuel economy to be 30 highway MPG/25 city MPG/27 combined MPG thanks to the efficient 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and AWD.

These numbers paint an important picture of the Seltos’s ability to deliver industry-leading technology, comfort and style without pulling you to every off-ramp on a long drive. It proves that Kia understands what drivers in this segment want and are willing to deliver it with some surprising flair.
