2020 Kia Seltos – Speculation
With multiple award-winning models like the 2019 Kia Forte, 2019 Kia Stinger and 2019 Kia Sorento, it’s hard to look at Kia’s lineup with any critique of incompleteness. After all, Kia offers models that meet both wide demand like the Kia Sportage, Kia Forte and Kia Telluride and more niche/narrow demand like the Kia Stinger, Kia Niro and Kia Sedona.
If we had to spend a day at the product-planning headquarters for Kia, however, one suggestion we might make is for them to consider a subcompact crossover with all-wheel drive. Sure, some of Kia’s competitors like Toyota and Nissan join Kia also don’t have a subcompact crossover with the all-weather capability of all-wheel drive. Models from other competitors, however, like the Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trax and Hyundai Kona all have this feature. For drivers in high-altitude climates and those in the northern latitude rungs, this can be a dealbreaker.

As it turns out, a future version of ourselves may have already traveled to Kia’s headquartered and stressed the need for such a model. That or Kia’s market research accurately reflects our experiences as dealers.
We prefer to believe we get to travel time in the future.
This last week, a model was photographed for a commercial shoot that knocked us out of our chairs. Kia had finally done the thing and produced a subcompact crossover that paradoxically looks both luxurious and rugged. Check out the videos below to see the photos that were taken:
The Seltos is based on an international Kia concept from last year called the SP2i. Kia has released some design sketches of the model below:
2020 Kia Seltos Specs and Features – Speculated
While we currently know so very little about the 2020 Kia Seltos (including whether it’s going to be out for the 2020 or 2021 model year), we can take a few guesses.
As a subcompact crossover, the Seltos will likely feature a similar powertrain to Kia’s compact range, meaning it will probably have the 2.0-liter engine from the 2019 Kia Forte with the 1.6-liter turbocharged model available as an upgrade. This would put horsepower right in the 145 – 150 range, standard for the segment.
With the all-new 2020 Kia Soul receiving Kia’s IVT, we would also be willing to bet the Seltos will debut with this transmission.
As far as features go, we haven’t seen any photography of the interior, but the sketch seems to show off the incredible 10.25-inch display found in the 2020 Kia Telluride and 2020 Kia Soul in an elegant top-of-dash placement.
We expect to see standard or available Kia Drive Wise features onboard as well.
Will the Kia Seltos Be Available in the United States?
That’s the big question, isn’t it? Until we know more later this month (the Seltos has an expected announcement date of June 20, 2019), we can’t really say for sure. We love the way it looks and would love to have a third option in the subcompact space – currently contested by the urban and funky Kia Soul and elegant and futuristic Kia Niro.
One thing is for sure, once we know more about the Kia Seltos, we’ll pass it on to you right here on the Friendly Kia Blog. For more information on current Kia models or to schedule a test drive, contact us today!
