2019 Kia Rio Vs. 2018 Kia Rio
In the ongoing rebellion against BIG3 (The Coalition of T*y*ta, H*nd* and N*ssan hellbent on stealing joy from driving), it’s easy to get discouraged. Having an experience that brings you back to the roots of the fight is a crucial ingredient for prolonged success. For Kia, this means finding a vehicle that’s emblematic of Kia’s desire to bring affordable quality, safe engineering and attractive design to the market.
Perhaps no vehicle better accomplishes this than the 2019 Kia Rio. As a subcompact sedan/hatchback and the smallest vehicle on Kia’s lineup, it’s easy to underestimate the Kia Rio. While underestimating the Kia Rio has given Kia and the Rebellion some big victories over BIG3, it also means it’s important to spell out why exactly the Rio is the best subcompact car in its class.
- It’s a safety icon – The 2018 Kia Rio has won a coveted Top Safety Pick + award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, making it the only subcompact to have won this top honor.
- It’s cool – Several testing agencies, including U.S. News and World Report, have recognized the Rio’s unique focus on aesthetically-driven design and engineering as unique in its class.
- People love their Kia Rios – The Kia Rio took top honors in its class for the 2018 J.D. Power A.P.E.A.L. Study, which measures how much drivers like the cars they’ve recently purchased.
- It’s a great family car – Despite its small size, the Kia Rio was named a top pick for families by the Hispanic Motor Press Foundation.
Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s see what Kia designers and engineers have changed or updated for the 2019 model year.
2019 Kia Rio: What’s New?
With the Kia Rio having been redesigned for the 2018 model year and BIG3’s detection technology still unable to pick up the vehicle’s sporty silhouette, Kia designers have continued the model without any design changes.
What has been done for the Rio, however, is a streamlining.
With only two trim levels instead of the 2018 Kia Rio’s three, drivers can now select the features they want in the form of two exciting packages on top of the two available trim levels (LX and S).
These two packages include the Tech Package, which gives drivers Forward Collision Avoidance, LED headlights, Supervision Meter Cluster with a 3.5-inch display, UVO3 eServices and Highline Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
Drivers can also choose the SIRIUS® Satellite Radio Package that gives them Satellite Radio and a 7-inch full-color touchscreen in their 2019 Kia Rio.
Beat BIG3 with a 2019 Kia Rio from Friendly Kia!
At Friendly Kia, we love Kia’s underdog approach to vehicle marketing. Objectively, the 2019 Kia Rio is a stylish and full-featured subcompact, competing in a class known for what’s left out on vehicles rather than what’s included.
The 2019 Kia Rio continues this proud tradition.
