2017 Kia Sportage vs. 2017 Fiat 500X

In the spirit of the Fiat 500X's ad campaign earlier in 2016 for "Zoolander 2," we're going to have a fashion-style "walk-off" between the 2017 Kia Sportage and the 2017 Fiat 500X, both worthy contestants in the small SUV class. From the get-go, what you notice is while the 2017 500X is a stylish crossover with cargo room, it suffers in the power department, as the 2017 Sportage has a base performance of 181 horsepower, which ratchets up to 240 HP in its top-line trim. The 2017 500X has a feeble 160 HP to start out in its base Pop trim, which tops out at 180 HP in trim levels with a 2.4-liter Tigershark engine. The 2017 Sportage has a turbo-boosted engine in its SX Turbo trim to deliver the superior power.

Speaking of power, while the 2017 500X is able to tow 1,000 pounds in all-wheel drive (AWD) models, you shouldn't hitch anything to a 500X that is front-wheel drive (FWD). In stark contrast is the 2017 Sportage's ability to tow 2,000 pounds in all trim options, a nice piece of versatility that will surely come in handy if you need extra items for a camping trip or a move to a new city. You'll also enjoy the 2017 Sportage's available 7-inch touchscreen that gives you access to up to 8GB of stored music and navigation directions, while the 2017 500X has a smaller 6.5-inch touchscreen size.

Test Drive the 2017 Sportage in the Tampa Clearwater and St. Petersburg FL Area

While the 2017 Kia Sportage has more towing power and more HP underneath the hood, it also comes with about 20 percent more cargo space in back than the 2017 Fiat 500X has, with 60.1 cubic feet to the 500X's 50.8 cubic feet. You'll notice that extra space in the Sportage, for example, if you're in a band and you've got to bring all your instruments and amps across town for a gig. And once you depart for wherever the road takes you in your 2017 Sportage, do so with confidence, thanks to its superior warranty coverage. Kia covers the 2017 Sportage's powertrain for 10 years or 100,000 miles, while the Fiat 500X's powertrain is only covered for five years or 60,000 miles. You also have the seal of safety approval that comes from the 2017 Sportage's IIHS Top Safety Pick, which means it is one of the most impact-resistant small SUVs and keeps passengers safe in case of a crash.

The choice is clear – for a more powerful, safe, affordable SUV, the 2017 Kia Sportage is the right option. We happily carry the Kia Sportage at Friendly Kia, 5819 US Highway 19 in New Port Richey, FL. We also serve the Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg area, as well as Brooksville, Trinity, Tarpon Springs and Spring Hill.
