What’s New on the 2020 Kia Sportage?
As a company with its eyes on the future, Kia have become leaders in the fields of design, engineering and packaged automotive value. Once vehicles you rented and then forgot on a trip, modern Kias are stunning head-turners that lead their respective segments in terms of thoughtful and well-executed design and development. They’re not just beautifully-designed vehicles, however. They’re also infused with something rare – personality.
One vehicle that exemplifies Kia’s willingness to stand out in a segment full of safe and sanitary options is the Kia Sportage. While the compact crossover class has become somewhat predictable with its “dog hunched over” design language, the Kia Sportage is a fresh and appealing car that draws its style from the European market. People have compared the Sportage’s design language to that used by Porsche with the compact Macan crossover.
Among the amazing things Kia showed off at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, the unexpected model we got was the refreshed and restyled 2020 Kia Sportage – a crossover that carries on Kia’s commitment to sophisticated and fun design.
2020 Kia Sportage Design Updates
The most apparent and biggest departure for the 2020 Kia Sportage is the restyled front and rear fascia, grille and lights. New to the 2020 Kia Sportage, drivers will see:
- New headlights with LED turn signals (available)
- Redesigned fog lights (projector beam)
- LED headlights (available) with LED fog lights (available)
- A new front grille, bumper, skid plate and intake
- New rear fascia and skid plate
- Redesigned tail lights
- New color options (Steel Grey)
- New wheel options
Inside, the 2020 Kia Sportage gains some awesome new features including:
- Standard 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility
- SOFINO leatherette seating (available)
- New steering wheel in line with other recent Kia debuts.
- Wireless charging (available)
Kia has also introduced a brand-new S trim level which incorporates a sportier aesthetic. Although we have yet to receive full information on trim levels, we have a hunch this may be analogous to the Kia Sportage GT-Line which is available in Europe.
2020 Kia Sportage Powertrain
With the other three trim levels from the 2019 Kia Sportage carrying over, engine options will remain consistent with the current Sportage, giving you either a 2.4L GDI 4-cylinder engine (181 horsepower) or a 2.0L turbocharged engine (240 horsepower).
The silky smooth six-speed transmission from the current Kia Sportage will also make its way into the new model.
