Tampa Bay Events February 23 and February 24 2019

It’s the last week of February and those long, eventful days with nights that stretch into the nine o’clock and ten o’clock hours are just around the corner. Still, Tampa has plenty of great things to do this weekend while we wait for the summer rush to hit us.

Here are our favorites:

1. The Pigeon Comes to Tampa: a Mo Willems Exhibit @ The Glazer Children’s Museum – Tampa, Florida

Various times throughout the February 24, 2019, weekend

Mo Willems artwork may be simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Famous for his flat an unadorned children’s book illustrations among other things, this artist uses color and shape in a way that seems to have a calming effect on minds of any age. His stories are beloved by millions and this weekend gives you and your children the unique opportunity to experience his distinct artwork in person at the Glazer Museum.

More information can be found on the Museum’s Facebook page, which you can reach by clicking here.

2. The City Showcase Bike Tour @ Courtyard at Grand Central and Kennedy – Tampa, Florida

Various times throughout the February 24, 2019, weekend

We say it a lot around here, but Tampa is a city with a ton of unknown history. Unlike Boston or San Francisco, it’s not exactly staring you in the eye, however. Thankfully, the City Showcase Bike Tour is here to help you discover the notable places and locations you may walk past in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

It’s also great exercise and sees a leisurely pace with a total distance of about eight miles.

More information is available at the Tampa by Bike Facebook page, which you can reach by clicking here.

3. WineFest 2019: Vino Royale @ Tampa Theatre – Tampa, Florida

Friday, February 22, 2019, and Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

If you love wine or if you love James Bond or if you love fundraisers, this is your event. The annual WineFest will take place at the Tampa Theatre and feature a James Bond theme to keep the stakes high. You’ll enjoy a decadent selection of reds, whites and gourmet appetizers from spotlighted chefs with a two-tiered tasting approach.

4. Fiesta Day Street Parade @ Ybor City Historic District – Tampa, Florida

Come celebrate the founders of Ybor City with a historically-minded and family-friendly “street fair” on the storied streets of Ybor. Cultures represented include Cuban, Italian, Spanish, Jewish and German cultures which settled Ybor and much of the Tampa Bay.

Although Fiesta Day began as a “verbena,” or day to rest and relax, for the cigar workers in Tampa, it’s expanded to represent the wonderful mosaic of cultures, music, food, dance, drink and more we enjoy in Tampa, St. Pete and beyond.

More information can be found on the Fiesta Day Facebook page, which you can reach by clicking here.

5. Planes, Trains & Automobiles @ Plant City Airport – Plant City, Florida

Sunday, February 23, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

No this isn’t a Broadway tour of the 1987 comedy starring John Candy and Steve Martin. Rather, it’s a time to learn about the most interesting forms of transportation to which we have access in Tampa Bay.

Enjoy a day of learning for children centered on fun transportation like airplanes, helicopters and more. The Plant City Airport becomes a learning center for inquisitive minds with regards to how air transportation works. This event also includes free flights for children ages 8 to 17.

More information is available at the Planes, Trains & Automobiles Facebook page, which you can reach by clicking here.

6. Not One More: Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness Walk @ Raymond James Stadium – Tampa, Florida

Eating disorders come in many forms, but all mean an unhealthy relationship with food and nourishment. Once shamed, this is now a subject that is being explored and around which awareness is being raised as a serious health issue. Join the voices rallying to set those affected free from eating disorders by participating in an awareness-building walk at Raymond James this weekend.
