Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2017 Preseason and Hard Knocks Episode Recaps

Two weeks of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers star turn on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” show have come and gone, and we’ve had plenty of insight into the team.  Whether it’s drama with a player getting cut, or hilarity with teammates getting to know one another, we’ve seen quite a bit in two episodes, with three more to come before the NFL seasons starts in September 2017.

We’ll give you a brief recap of what has transpired so far in the show, and on the field with the Buccaneers in their first two preseason games.

First Look: Bucs and “Hard Knocks”

Midseason Update: Tampa Bay Rays

Recap of the Bucs Preseason

The Bucs have only played two preseason games so far, with the one usually deemed most important – week three – right ahead.  In game one, Tampa lost 23-12 to the Cincinnati Bengals on August 11.  In game two, Tampa won 12-8 over the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 17.

The Bucs offense was solid in game one, as backups rotated in all game – par for the course in the preseason.  Starting quarterback Jameis Winston completed nine passes in limited action, and star wide receiver Mike Evans had four catches for 58 yards.  New backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had the lone touchdown on a run, and new receiver DeSean Jackson had one catch for six yards, with a larger role surely expected for him in the regular season.

In game two, the Bucs outgained the Jags in offensive yardage, and Winston had extended action at QB with 21 completed passes for 196 yards.  Running back Doug Martin had a rushing touchdown, Evans and Jackson combined for seven catches and 74 receiving yards, and new kicker Nick Folk had a couple field goals to complete the scoring.

Bucs Remaining Preseason Schedule

  • Aug. 26: Vs. Cleveland, 7:30 p.m. ET.
  • Aug. 31: Vs. Washington, 7:30 p.m. ET.

Episode One and Two Recap of “Hard Knocks”

As training camp was set to begin we were worried about second-year kicker Roberto Aguayo, who had a rough rookie season, and for good reason.  After he missed a field goal and an extra point in game one of the preseason, the second-round draft pick was cut by the Buccaneers, and this drama was captured in episode two of “Hard Knocks.”

Other highlights of the first two episodes of “Hard Knocks”:

  • QB Jameis Winston returns to his hometown of Bessemer, Alabama in episode one.
  • Receiver Mike Evans and new Buc receiver DeSean Jackson and their relationship, including some hilarious banter, in both episodes.
  • Rookie linebacker Riley Bullough being compared to Joe Dirt (the movie character) and model/actor Fabio in episode two.
  • Star defensive lineman Gerald McCoy and his celebrations, as well as his man cave with Batman memorabilia.

“Hard Knocks” Remaining TV Schedule

The show airs on HBO, with episodes on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET.

The schedule includes five total episodes, with the remaining three shows to air on 8/22, 8/29 and 9/5.
