The athletic K5 is already living up to its sport sedan designation, showcasing multiple engine options, an all-wheel-drive powertrain, and a new platform.

2021 K5 N3 Platform and Engine Lineup

The 2021 Kia K5 has been built on the third generation of the N3 platform. The K5 marks the start of the N3 platform becoming the norm for future Kia models. With this platform in tow, the K5 sits lower, wider, and longer than the previous Optima and showcases an exciting and aggressive overall profile.

Two powerful engine options are available for the 2021 Kia K5, one being a 2.5-liter turbocharged GDI and the other a 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI. The 2.5-liter engine option manufactures 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque and pairs to a new 8-speed “wet” Dual Clutch Transmission. When equipped with this power duo the K5 can take drivers from zero to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds. The addition of this “wet” transmission solidifies the K5 sedan’s placement among its sports sedan competitors.

The 1.6-liter engine option produces 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque on the road. This engine pairs to an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission and adds Continuously Variable Valve Duration functionality to boost performance and efficiency. All-wheel drive is available with the 1.6T engine to provide an enhanced driving experience and better handling in all weather conditions. The availability of AWD will come in late 2020, with front-wheel drive coming standard across the lineup.
