2020 Kia Optima Specs and Features Speculation
Although we make up a huge part of the Kia Optima’s fanbase, we’re not alone. The Kia Optima is consistently rated as a top model in the timelessly elegant midsize sedan space. We even said it was a Camry challenger that goes above and beyond what Toyota’s totem model offers.

With the 2019 Kia Optima having brought some bold new styling accents to the model and plenty of features including standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. standard active safety features and an available turbocharged engine, Kia seems ready to move on to the next generation.
Here’s what we expect:
1. The 2020 Kia Optima will be largely the same as the 2019 Kia Optima.
What’s the point in us writing an article about the 2020 Kia Optima if it’s just going to be the same? Well, we think the next model will be arriving for the 2021 model year with the 2020 Kia Optima being an iterative upgrade only.
That said, the 2021 Kia Optima seems poised to bring the really interesting stuff, so let’s shift gears and talk about what the next generation of the stylish midsize sedan will hold.
2. The 2021 Kia Optima will have an upgraded infotainment system.
Perhaps the easiest prediction we can make about the 2021 Kia Optima is that it will continue the current generation’s incredible standard infotainment. We have a feeling it will build on the current generation, in fact. This means that we think we’ll see a larger standard screen (as is now true with the Kia Forte that has a standard 8-inch touchscreen and the Kia Telluride which also has a standard 8-inch touchscreen).
3. The 2021 Kia Optima may have all-wheel drive.
This is perhaps the wildest rumor about the next-generation Kia Optima but one that seems to be substantiated. Both the Kia Optima, and its platform-mate the Hyundai Sonata, were seen testing in their future generation iterations with a setup that suggests all-wheel drive.
Although we’re a little gunshy about predicting all-wheel drive on the future iteration of anything (see our 2019 Kia Soul prediction article), the existence of an all-wheel-drive Optima would go a long way to giving drivers in snowy climates an option that has the timelessness of a sedan with the all-weather capability of four-wheel power.
By the way, YouTube Channel Asian PetrolHead did a review of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata with which the next-generation Kia Optima will share a platform. Check it out!
4. The 2021 Kia Optima will be a class leader.
With the current generation Kia Optima leading its class in terms of warranty coverage, standard technology and value, the next-generation Kia Optima is in an even better position to take these wins and build on them.
While we don’t have any information about when the next Kia Optima will be released, you can guarantee that the second we know more about this model, we’ll pass it on to you through our Friendly Kia Blog.
