2019 Chicago Auto Show Kia Roundup

We’ve said it before but auto show season is one of our favorite times of the year. Our excitement about the season is directly tied to Kia’s status as thought-leaders in the industry. Every year, Kia introduces us to something that makes us excited and proud to sell and service such a dynamic and interesting brand.

This year was no exception.

Here are our favorite things we saw at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show!

2020 Kia Telluride at the Chicago Auto Show

As the Kia Stinger was for 2017 and Kia Forte was for 2018, 2019 saw a bold new model take center stage for the Korean manufacturer we love so much. We’ve written extensively about the 2020 Kia Telluride, including features on its trim levels, color options and specs.

Actually seeing the gargantuan Kia Telluride in person was a distinct experience altogether. The 2020 Kia Telluride is massive in all the best ways. It cuts a strong and muscular physique that stood out among the anonymous crossovers of the Chevrolet GMC booths between which is sat.

Beyond just getting some photographs of the brand-new family SUV from Kia, however, we also got this walkaround video, we live-streamed to our Facebook feed on the day of our presence at the Chicago Auto Show:

Kia also had a light off-road course set up to show the Telluride’s prowess at climbing over hills and rocks. We were able to get a front-seat experience for this with the live-streamed video attached below:

2020 Kia Sportage

Unlike the 2020 Kia Telluride, we were only able to see the locked 2020 Kia Sportage from the outside. Our walkaround video above details it and we have the following photos we took:

The updated Sportage looks sharp! Plenty of compelling angles, a more aggressive and sporty grille and a center stack with slight updates all bring it up to par with entry-luxury SUVs, in a class of less stylish and less-outfitted competition.

2020 Kia Soul X-Line

We were also able to see the 2020 Kia Soul X-Line crossover style trim at the Chicago Auto Show. Perplexingly, the only 2020 Kia Soul model on the floor was a green variant of this outdoorsy and rugged take on the best subcompact car the market has.

With the 2020 Kia Soul, we couldn’t believe how the subtle updates that were done to the exterior contributed to an impressive fresh look for the iconic sports box. Here is the walkaround video we did featuring a look at the restyled interior as well:

Other Kia Models at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show

In addition to exciting new Kia models at the Chicago Auto Show, Kia also had some of our favorite existing models that have set the tone for automotive design and engineering. Among them, we were able to see the 2019 Kia Cadenza in all of its full-size sedan glory:

We also finally got to see the beautiful 2020 Kia Forte GT in person:

Kia had a few curious omissions such as the 2020 Kia Soul GT-Line trims, 2020 Kia Soul EV and 2020 Kia Niro EV. For a more truck- and SUV-focused show like Chicago, it makes sense, but it also made us even more excited to see them in person once they’re shipped here.

All-in-all, it was a great show! There was a stark difference between the elegance and style of Kia’s lineup and the sometimes-ostentatious presentation of some of Kia’s competitors (Nissan, for instance, had transformed one of their crossovers into a DJ booth. Why? Great question!).

Kia’s commitment to giving drivers affordable ways to feel great about their vehicles is always on display here at Friendly Kia. If you haven’t been able to make it to the auto shows this year, swing by any time to see Kia’s graceful design and engineering in motion with a test drive.
